Aliboba Quarters’ Residents, Agbor, sets Agenda for Delta State Governor-Elect, Sheriff Oborevwori

Now that the turbulent season of elections are over, the chickens have come to roost; hence in the letter and spirit of continuity, the residents of Aliboba quarters in Agbor, Ika South of Delta State have deemed it fit to acquaint the Delta State Governor- Elect, Rt. Honorable Sheriff Oborevwori of the total neglect of this community for over 30 years, and to set agenda for delivery of dividends of democracy to the area, writes, Tony Nwakaegho, Editor Gentechnews.

The Community known as Aliboba Quarters, Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State is in located by the popular Uromi express road Junction, Agbor.

The Community also is where the Delta line office and the Agbor Technical College are domiciled. The Uromi junction, Agbor has stores and parks on both sides of the road, where both the State and local government generate internal revenue.

Investigation by Gentechnews revealed that the community only has footpath ways that residents use to move to their abodes because no motor-able road networks have ever been constructed there since the inception of Delta State. Those who have cars have to park them in town and trek home daily and make do with motorcycles.

The community leaders said that they have had several chats with the both print and electronic media on this development and inundated the state government with the publication on both the state government official website, Instagram and Twitter handles to draw the attention of even the outgoing government to the plight of this community.

The Commissioner of Information, Mr Charles Ehiedu, an Ika indigene and his Works Urban Roads counterpart, Mr Noel Omodon are privy to the several reportage on this Aliboba Community, Agbor, yet nothing is done.

It was gathered that notable roads in Ika South such as Mariere, Iregwa during this year’s electioneering campaign saw the sign of contractors trying to dig some drainages after several years of abandonment.

Before this just ended elections, like the proverbial Ostrich, which hide its face in the sand thinking naively that by doing so the problem will disappear, the residents said that a caterpillar grader surfaced at one the Aliboba Street near the Delta Line Office and tried to close a small portion of the bush path and then disappeared. The recent rain fall has expose now the colossal destruction that the caterpillar grader left on the former bush part the residents were managing to get to their homes. It is now a tale of woes as they have begun to ask “Who send them to come and spoil the foot path we were managing.”

Successive administrations in the State come and go and only remember the residents of Alibuba during electioneering campaigns with vogue promises that the roads in the area will be constructed.

This is now a clarion call to the incoming administration of Delta State Governor- Elect, Rt Honorable Sheriff Oborevwori to commence an investigation to these areas that has been ravaged by erosion from the Uromi junction up to the heavy gullies by Agbor Technical School fence where some buildings are about to cave into.

The agony, pains and panic of the people is that lives have being lost, residential buildings about caving into deep gully in Ebomkpa quarters even as the Agbor Technical College and the Aliboba primary school are at the verge of the gully which can swallow any big lorry. About a year ago two siblings were swept away by flood in a mighty gully that is close to the Technical College fence.

The Chairman of the community, Mr Johnson Nwaogwu, once told the media that several protest letters have been written to the Governor Okowa stating their plight but no positive response or attention so far given to the roads and gullies.

The question on every lip in the Aliboba community is “What is the sin of this community that houses the Delta Line at Uromi Junction, Agbor. The gully which is before this Delta line office has become the cynosure of all eyes and speaks volume.

“We voted massively for Delta State Governor- Elect, Rt Honorable Sheriff Oborevwori  during the just concluded election as well as all the other elected officeholders and wonder why they will neglect us at this time of urgent need again,” Nwaogwu asked.

It was also gathered that Ika South has notable sons and daughters who committed to community service thereby reducing the sufferings of their brethren. Among them are Dr Jim Ovia from Obiolihe, Agbobi, Mr Agboje Egbonimali Shadrack from Ahima, Alisimie, Dr. Donald Peterson from Ogbisere, among others.

It is a shame that such a scenario as these erosion ravage communities could be seen in this 21st century in Ika South Local government area of Delta State, even when the out-going governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa is from Ika North East, while Aliboba Community is in Ika South of Delta State.

This is a litmus test for this incoming administration of the same ruling party to remedy this trend as it begins to exhibit the ethos of continuity in development of places such as Aliboba community in Agbor, Delta State.

Stephen Grellet, (1773–1855) quipped “ I expect to pass through this world but once; any good thing therefore that I can do, or any kindness that I can show to any fellow-creature, let me do it now; let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.”

It will be a comic relief if this wrong done to this Aliboba community, Agbor is corrected and fixed because this community has been wearing the toga of a neglected and abandoned community since the inception of Delta State.

Therefore, the prayer of Aliboba Community Agbor, Delta State is to see that the Governor-Elect, Rt. Hon Honorable Sheriff Oborevwori will take cognizance of this trend, visit first hand or send his commissioner and his aides and see if they may not be filled with tears that a place like Aliboba Community exist in a sorry state in the heart of Agbor in Delta State.

It is time for Rt. Hon Honorable Sheriff Oborevwori to write his name in Gold and  for residents of Aliboba Community to say “You have done what Napoleon couldn’t do” for Aliboba Community in Ika South LGA of Delta State.
