Goronyo Attends Body of Benchers Annual Lecture in Abuja
The Honourable Minister of State for Works, Rt. Hon. Bello Muhammad Goronyo, Esq., on Thursday, March 5, 2026, joined eminent members of Nigeria’s legal community and other distinguished personalities at the Annual Lecture of the Body of Benchers, held in Abuja.
A statement signed by Abdullahi Mohammed, SA Media to the Honourable Minister of State for Works, noted that the event, which also featured the presentation of the report of the Directions of the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee, took place at the Body of Benchers Complex, No. 12 Y.C. Maikyau Crescent, Institution and Research District, FCC Phase III, Abuja.
This year’s lecture was delivered under the theme “Body of Benchers: Beyond Call to Bar,” focusing on the evolving responsibilities of the legal profession in upholding discipline, ethics, and professional excellence within Nigeria’s justice system.
Rt. Hon. Goronyo’s presence at the event underscored the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting institutions that safeguard the rule of law and strengthen democratic governance.
Goronyo’s participation as a member of the Nigerian Bar Association and the International Bar Association highlighted the Ministry of Works’ respect for the legal profession and its critical role in national development.
The lecture attracted an array of prominent dignitaries, including the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Kudirat Motonmori Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun; former Chief Justice of Nigeria and Chairman of the Body of Benchers, Hon. Justice Olukayode Ariwoola; Vice Chairman of the Body of Benchers, Chief Albert Akpomudje, SAN; the Honourable Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Olasunkanmi Fagbemi, SAN; and the President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN.
Also in attendance were the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin and keynote speaker, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN; Secretary of the Body of Benchers, Mr. Daniel M. Tela, Esq.; Justice of the Supreme Court, Hon. Justice Chidiebere Nwaoma; Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN; Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ola Olukoyede; Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, Dr. Olugbemisola Titilayo Odusote; as well as many other senior legal practitioners and stakeholders.
The annual lecture provided a platform for reflection on the responsibilities of legal practitioners beyond their call to the Bar, while reinforcing the Body of Benchers’ role as the apex institution responsible for the admission and discipline of members of the legal profession in Nigeria.
The gathering further strengthened dialogue among leaders across the judiciary, legal profession, and government, as they collectively seek to advance justice, professionalism, and institutional integrity in the country.
