Keyamo Lauds Prime Atlantic’s Role in Local Content Training, Foreign Exchange Savings

Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo has highlighted the importance of local content training, noting that it will conserve foreign exchange and build capacity.

Keyamo made this statement during his tour of Prime Atlantic Safety Services and also the commissioning of the Aviation Centre at the multipurpose international facility.

 He stated that such initiatives are significant for strengthening Nigeria’s aviation ecosystem, as well as help to address various resource challenges.

Keyamo acknowledged that, under presidential directives, the government has reduced reliance on foreign training in favour of fostering local content.

“We need to conserve our foreign exchange. I want to build capacity at reasonable costs within Nigeria, using local resources as much as possible,” Keyamo said.

 According to him, this strategic shift aims not only to conserve resources but also to create more opportunities for professionals to receive training locally.

The Minister commended the Prime Atlantic’s facilities based on their global standard and capabilities.

 He applauded the high level of training infrastructure available, comparing it favourably to many overseas institutions adding “ I have gone around the world myself. Some global training centers are housed in one building, yet we spend vast amounts sending people abroad.”

Keyamo underscored the value of using such facilities within Nigeria, which cuts costs and retains foreign exchange.

Ayo Otuyalo, Prime Atlantic Safety Services Group Managing Director, highlighted the facility’s 14-year history and international partnerships.

Folake Soyannowo, the facility’s Managing Director, deliberated on the broader benefits of local capacity building, stressing that the center not only trains Nigerians but also attracts trainees from across Africa, thereby adding economic value to the country.

Soyannowo also mentioned the facility’s international accreditation, to ensuring that certifications earned here receive global recognition.

She noted that with the facilities they are able to accommodate people from outside Nigeria, to generate revenue while providing top-quality training.

This global recognition, she added makes Prime Atlantic an attractive option for professionals seeking internationally accepted qualifications.

“Prime Atlantic’s safety, survival, and emergency response training spans various sectors, including offshore and industrial firefighting. The facility is pursuing International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards and Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) accreditation to strengthen its position in aviation safety training,” Soyannowo said.

High point saw Keyamo watched a live rescue simulation during his tour of the facility’s marine training areas, showcasing advanced capabilities.

He also observed live fire training exercises on rotary wing modules, showcasing the facility’s comprehensive safety training programs.

The facility’s accreditations, including JOYF for industrial firefighting and OPITO for offshore petroleum safety, which demonstrate its commitment to industry standards.
