NCC Commends Tijani’s Drive to Empower Girls in ICT, Hosts 185 Students in Abuja Digital Heritage Tour

 The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has commended the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, for his sustained efforts to promote digital inclusion and empower Nigerian girls with critical technology skills.

NCC made the commendation via its official social media handle on Friday, highlighting ongoing Federal Government initiatives aimed at increasing the participation of young girls in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) as well as Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines.

As part of the 2026 National Girls in ICT Programme, the NCC hosted 185 female students from across the country on an educational excursion to the National Communications Museum in Abuja.

The visit exposed the students to Nigeria’s rich telecommunications history and the evolution of communication technologies, giving them firsthand intuition into the foundations of the nation’s digital ecosystem.

The Commission explained that the initiative is designed to inspire young girls to take up careers in ICT and become active contributors to Nigeria’s ongoing digital transformation.

It further stated that early exposure to technology and innovation would help bridge the gender gap in the sector and strengthen the country’s digital economy.

Stakeholders in the communications industry have described the programme as a strategic investment in the future, saying it will help nurture a new generation of female innovators and leaders who will play key roles in shaping Nigeria’s expanding digital landscape.
