NEPC re-echoes economic diversification to boost export drive
The Nigerian Export Promotional Council (NEPC) has urged Nigerian businessmen to take the incentives and enabling environment provided for local businesses by supporting the Federal Government to boost the country’s export drive.
The Executive Secretary of the NEPC, Oluwasegun Awolowo who made the call while speaking in Lagos recently stressed that the current administration has provided, incentives to exporters to enable the country diversify its economy.
Awolowo said the country is blessed with array of huge minerals, agro-allied and fruits and other items other countries needed, adding that exporters grants is being paid as at when due now than in the past when the scheme was suspended for years due to the abuses by some businessmen brought the scheme.
“I call on our local businessmen and traders to heed the federal government diversification policy. Our country is blessed with huge deposits of many sold minerals and agro allied produces, we can export to the outside world. These items if exported can earn the country more funds than the crude oil,” he stressed.
The NEPC boss charged businessmen to seize the enabling environment the government has provided for exporters to earn foreign currencies for themselves.
He urged Nigerians to assist the government in its diversification effort, adding that the days of Nigeria relying on crude oil and gas alone for its foreign exchange was long gone.
