Farmers in the country have been advised to use hybrid modern agricultural  seeds during this planting season to ensure bountiful yield in anticipation of shortage rainfall.

The Director General of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (Nimet) Prof. Mansur Matazu, who gave this advise while addressing staff of the agency in Kaduna said it has become necessary as a result of the agency’s resolve to move from rain fall forecast to predicting the amount of rain fall.

“We moving from the era of forecasting that it will rain in Kaduna or environ but should be able to tell the public the amount of rain that will fall in the area”.

He said Nimet was evolving new innovation and technique to deliver effective operations in terms of weather related issues.

Matazu advised those living in flood prone areas to relocate more suitable place to protect their lives and property from destructioNn.

The agency has earlier this year predicted delay in rain fall and early cessation.

NiMet anticipated earliest cessation date by October 9 around Katsina and northern part of Sokoto while the latest cessation date by Dec. 25 over the Niger-Delta region.
