9mobile, NIMC partner to register 10 million Nigerians

Telecommunication firm, 9mobile and the National Identity Management, NIMC are partnering to register no fewer than 10 million Nigerians in the rural areas under enrollment scheme.

The Teleco made the announcement during a stakeholder’s engagement workshop and capacity building interactive session organised in collaboration with the NIMC in Abuja, recently.

The organization disclosed that the gesture was part of its efforts to support the National ID Number (NIN) Project and enhance security efforts.

In his remarks, Chief Executive Officer of 9mobile, Juergen Peschel, commended NIMC for partnering with the organisation to bring the workshop to reality.

Peschel said, “9mobile will continue to play a pivotal role in the country’s national identity management enrollment scheme, especially in the rural areas where we have the mandate to egister 10 million individuals.

“To ensure that we meet up with the target, we are constantly expanding our capacity in terms of infrastructure and technology to ensure that all Nigerians are enrolled.”

On his part, the company’s Director of Sales, Oluwatosin Olulana tasked government on continued engagement with stakeholders to be able to strengthen the nation’s identity management process.

Olulana said, “We will be sharing resources with NIMC to improve the process of service delivery. In addition, mobile connectivity will also be made available for the next six months to aid the virtual working process. We are currently arranging to provide up to 20Mbps fiber connectivity for NIMC office use.”

The Director-General, NIMC, Aliyu Aziz reassured of the commission’s commitment to fostering the development of a robust identity system in Nigeria, thus called for collaboration among stakeholders.
