WAFCON: Nigeria defeats Cameroon 1-0, Qualify for World Cup

The Super Falcons of Nigeria have defeated Cameroon 1-0 in their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final clash on Thursday night in Casablanca.

Nigeria’s attacker Rasheedat Ajibade scored in the 56th minute to rise her tally to three in the competition.

Nigeria by this victory has qualified for the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand next year.

The four teams that make the semi-finals at the ongoing continental championship in Morocco pick automatic tickets for the Women’s World Cup, while the team that finished as fifth will be presented with another chance for a shot at a Playoff Tournament next year.

Meanwhile, Zambia was first to snatch a ticket for the Women’s World Cup as it beat Senegal 4-2 on penalties in Casablanca. The two sides drew 1-1 after extra time.

Morocco then beat Botswana 2-1 in Rabat with defender Yasmin Mrabet heading home a 59th-minute winner to qualify for the Women’s World Cup.

South Africa defeated Tunisia 1-0 to book a slot for the Women’s World Cup.
