Maritime Journalists Elect New Executives: Kagbare Emerges AMJON President
The Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON) has successfully conducted elections into its executive positions.
The election, held at the Eleganza Plaza Office, saw Kelvin Igho Kagbare emerge as President, with Vera Osokpo and Segun Oladipupo taking the positions of Vice President and Secretary-General, respectively.
Other elected officials include:
- Assistant Secretary: Ugochukwu Ezurike
- Financial Secretary: Raymond Tejundaye
- Treasurer: Barnabas Esiet
- Public Relations Officer: Uzor Odigbo
- Welfare Officer: Rhoda Ogunseye
- Provost: Gloria Nwafor
Representatives from the Department of State Service (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) observed the election, describing it as hitch-free, fair, and credible.
Chairman of the Election Committee, Ismail Aniemu, applauded the process, highlighting the importance of performance in office.
Aniemu urged journalists to deepen their maritime industry coverage, moving beyond reporting on government agencies’ activities.
He harped on the need for investigative journalism to hold agencies accountable and promote economic growth.
The outgoing President of AMJON, Paul Ogbuokiri commended members for their unity and support during his six-year tenure.
Ogbuokiri charged members for continued support for the incoming administration to achieve the organization’s objectives.
In his acceptance speech, Kagbare thanked members for their support and pledged an inclusive regime prioritizing members’ welfare, training, and collaboration with industry stakeholders.
The new AMJON leadership will be sworn in in November 2024.
