FAAN appoints Gbenga Afuwape as new manager for Ibadan Airport
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has appointed Gbenga Afuwape as the new Manager for the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan, Oyo State.

On assumption of office in his new role, Afuwape called for uninterrupted teamwork and cohesion as key drivers for improving organisational performance.
Afuwape met with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde to discuss the airport’s ongoing upgrade, which is being funded by the state government.
According to the statement issued by the Authority, Afuwape has engaged with FAAN management staff, airport stakeholders, and community leaders, highlighting on collaboration to enhance the airport’s operations.
He also called for the cooperation of staff to meet the objectives set for the airport’s growth and development.
The new airport manager was said to have also conducted an on-site inspection of the ongoing airport projects and plans to meet with key security stakeholders, the Divisional Police Officer as well as other agencies to improve security at the airport.
Afuwape has previously worked at major airports such as the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport and Murtala Muhammed International Airport.
He also served as the Technical Adviser to the Regional Manager for the South-West region between 2023 and 2024 and has held leadership positions at various terminals at Murtala Muhammed Airport.
Afuwape also has a background in journalism, having worked as a reporter/researcher at Vanguard Media Limited between 1995 and 2003.
