ASUU FUPRE Branch Protests FG’s Handling of Lingering Issues

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) branch at the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE), held a protest today demanding the Federal Government of Nigeria address outstanding issues affecting university lecturers. The protest was led by Branch Chairperson Comrade Wilfred Okologume.

• The branch demands the Federal Government sign and implement the renegotiated agreement submitted by the Mahmud Yayale Ahmed led FGN/ASUU 2009 agreement renegotiation Committee.
• Lecturers are calling for better welfare, emphasizing their status as professionals and parents to students.
• The union rejects loans as a solution, instead demanding improved welfare for lecturers.

University Administration’s Response

Speaking to the protesting lecturers and the press, Vice Chancellor Prof. Ezekiel Agbalagba assured that he would relay the demands to the appropriate authorities. Prof. Agbalagba expressed confidence that the Federal Government would address the issues raised by ASUU.
