NLNG picks Hudong-Zhonghua to build LNG carriers

Nigeria LNG’s shipping unit Bonny Gas Transport (BGT) has selected Chinese shipbuilder Hudong-Zhonghua to build LNG carriers, according to shipbuilding sources.

Nigeria LNG, together with its shipping unit, Bonny Gas Transport (BGT), will build three 174,000 cu m LNG carriers at Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding, plus options for another three vessels.

The first three ships are expected to be delivered in 2029.

Nigeria LNG operates one of Africa’s largest dedicated LNG shipping fleets, Bonny Gas Transport manages Nigeria LNG’s fleet, as well as chartering and acquiring new vessels for Nigeria LNG.

Hudong-Zhonghua has not officially announced the contract yet, which is expected to become the first new LNG carrier order Hudong-Zhonghua has inked this year.

Hudong–Zhonghua Shipbuilding is a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC). It produces civilian and military ships. Hudong–Zhonghua claims to be the “Cradle of Chinese Frigates and Landing Ships” for its work for the People’s Liberation Army Navy.
