Gunmen attack FAAN staff quarters in Kaduna, kidnap 11

Gunmen have attacked the staff quarters of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) in Kaduna and abducted a number of the staff.

Henrietta Yakubu, FAAN spokesperson, who confirmed the incident, said the suspected bandits attacked on Saturday morning, and abducted a number of the staff.

“They went away with about nine of our staff and their family members at the quarters,” she said.

The FAAN quarters are located just before the Kaduna International Airport in the Igabi Local Government Area of the state being ravaged by bandits.

Some residents, who craved anonymity, said the cry from the victims had attracted the military personnel nearby who engaged the bandits in a gun battle.

The attack happened at about 1.00am in the early hours of Saturday. It was gathered that the gunmen in large numbers and on motorcycles gained access to the quarters through the airport runway.

They said for the intervention of the military, the entire occupants of the quarters would have been abducted.

The bandits invaded the houses of a staff of Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) and a staff of the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NIMET) quarters with sophisticated weapons but they were only able to gain access into two houses.

According to them, the incident lasted for hours as the military personnel tried fiercely to resists the attack but the bandits went away with nine people, including six people from a single-family by putting them on their motorcycles.

As of the time of filing this report, the state Command of the Nigeria Police Force Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Jalige had yet to confirm the incident.
