Lagos foots School fees for 8m Students –LIRS
Lagos State has urged Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs)in the state to pay up their taxes as the government foots school fees for 8million students in the state.
According to Mr Tunji Johnson of Lagos State Inland Revenue Service (LIRS) this is apart from the utilities, health insurance and other welfare initiatives shouldered by the State government.
Speaking at the LTV Auditorium Alausa, Ikeja ,Lagos during the 6th Lagos MSMEs Exclusive Fair he revealed that taxes paid in Lagos is cheap, saying that the minimum tax paid by MSMEs averages as low as N8,900
He therefore urged MSMEs operators to go to LIRS tax portal to get more useful information and pay their taxes in the overall interest of the economy.
In her contribution, Dr B.O. Oyedoyin, Director, Federal Institute of Industrial Research, Oshodi (FIIRO) called on MSMEs to avail research results and it inventions to better their own businesses, maintaining that potential MSMEs and those already in business need to lease with FIIRO in their overall interest.
She said more than 7,000 companieshaveadoptedFIIRO’stechnologiesandthat5000othershavebenefit from its research efforts, adding that MSMEs can succeed in the Nigerian clime by getting needed education, improving their competitive edge, adopting to governmental policies and tapping into new enabling technologies.
According to her, its not true that capital is the major problem of Nigerian MEMEs, saying that unskilled human resources are a huge part of the predicament.
Making her contribution, Tusan Yakubu of Corporate Affairs Commission of Nigeria(CAC) opined that Nigerians should go online to effortlessly register their businesses with CAC, revealing that their business registration portal was put together to promote governments ease of doing business policy.
