AAU, Ekpoma Nursing Graduates Urge NMCN to Induct, issue them Licences to Commence Internship
The joy of the Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma Nursing sciences Graduates in 2023 set who have collected a notification letter from Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) recently in order to contribute their quota through internship to the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu on the Health Sector is still dangling as a result of Government and private Hospitals requesting for General Nurses’ licences from these nursing graduates who have been designated as General Nurse by NMCN are yet to be inducted and given their licences.
Genetechnews gathered from some of these Nursing Sciences Graduates that their notification letter signed by Faruk U. Abubakar, Registrar/CEO NMCN dated 8th February 2024 from NMCN read thus:
NOTIFICATION OF REGISTRATION AS A GENERAL NURSE
I refer to your application for registration as a GENERAL NURSE, dated 10th December, 2023 and do hereby notify you that your name has been entered into the Register for GENERAL NURSE pursuant to section 8 and 9 of the Nursing and Midwifery Registration; Etc, Act. Cap. N143 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
It was learnt that wherever they applied to commence the compulsory one-year internship, the authority there is not acknowledging the notification letter from NMCN, but demanding for their licence from NMCN before they would be accepted to commence their internship.
In view of the foregoing, it is not yet hurrah for them, as there are still two pending hurdles to cross and NMCN is holding the initiative to get them inducted and given their licences as General Nurses to commence their internship.
“We have started applying to do our internships with the acknowledge letters but are being rejected because we have to get our General Nursing licences first from NMCN before we can be accepted to commence our internship. We are appalling to NMCN to please induct us and issue us with our General Nurse licence without delay for us to commence our internship,” the statement from the graduates read.
Finding by Gentenchews indicates that NMCN appears to be overwhelmed to organise the exams, issue notification letters, licences for nursing sciences graduates in 259 approved institutions in Nigeria, and suggest that NMCN could be unbundle if JAMB could handle the volume of candidate that sit for its examination annually for them to gain admission in tertiary institution are not overwhelmed by it.
Gentechnews wished to commend the Senate House Committee on Health for its intervention when it was inundated with NMCN issue of delay that was escalated to the committee before this notification letter was issued to the AAU Ekpoma Nursing Sciences Graduates.
Gentechnews also want the Senate House Committee on Health to intervene to stop the ‘JAPA SYNDROME’ through a resolution to mandate Mr Faruk U. Abubakar, Registrar/CEO NMCN to as a matter of urgency organise an induction ceremony for these AAU Ekpoma Nursing Sciences graduates that he has issued notification letters and then issue them with their licences to enable them to commence their internship in Hospitals nationwide and contribute their quota to the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu on the Health Sector.
