Airport bus operators seek palliatives from FAAN.

• Calls for motor park maintenance

The Lagos Airport Limousine bus operators has called on the management of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria FAAN to give them discount in their annual vehicle registration payment as waivers to ensure they remain in business following the ravaging effect of the Corona pandemic

The Chairman of airport Limousine bus operators Tijani Jelili who made this call while exchanging views with journalists in his office at the Yellow taxi park at Ikeja Airport revealed that members of the association have already paid N40000 ss part of their annual charges but lamented that his members were complaining of the balance N20000.

Jellili explained that it becoming increasingly difficult for them to maintain their vehicles as a result of rising costs of spare parts stressing that since the outbreak of the pandemic that the daily take home pay of drivers plying the airport routes has been reduced to N2000 as against N3000

“At the covid time, they said we should pay the money and we told them the problem of this country is affecting us and we don’t have money and they should leave this year for us. We have been operating for 35 years and we have been paying and if we don’t pay this time it doesn’t mean we will not pay again but they refused and say they will collect their money which is N60,000 and N20,000”.

He said they have been involved in series of meetings with FAAN representatives and FAAN insisted that they must pay the outstanding but the drivers have said they do not have the financial muscle

“Now, we have paid the N40,000 to FAAN and now they are asking for the remaining N20,000 and we said we are not paying that one, we beg they leave it because covid has affected our operations, we can not even maintain our buses and our homes. Just to pay the government we have to borrow money, this is the issue we are having with FAAN.

Jellili called on FAAN Management to put the Hajj camp motor park in order as both motorists and commuters were suffering untold hardship especially during rainy season

“We don’t have any issue, the only issue is that they said they will fix the hajj camp park for us the park is bad, they came to see it but since then nothing has been done, the park is bad, it is an eyesore even Lagos State came too to talk about that park and we as the union we don’t have money to fix it”
