Cabinet Nominees: Group Appeals to Lagos Assembly over Rejected Names

A pro-democracy and workers group, The Labour Veterans, has expressed dismay over the refusal of the Lagos State House of Assembly to clear 17 out of 39 cabinet nominees forwarded to them by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, appealing to the 40 member House to reconsider their action by reconsidering the dropped names in the interest of the generality of the people of the state.
In a press statement in Lagos weekend, Convener and Leader of the group, Comrade Oliseh Charles said, rejection of the 17 nominees the Governor considered good hands to work would appear as if the House has another reason for their action beyond the fact of incompetence, appealing that, “the best relationship expected between the Executive and the Legislature is strengthening of the cordial synergy that has been existing between the two in Lagos State this while.”
According to the statement, what makes the scenario worrisome is the likely setback it may cause to the progress of the state and the commitment of Governor Sanwo-Olu to make his second term better than the first term, pointing out that the governor has started showing evidences of seriousness about his assurance to walk his talk as usual for his people.
“The governor, who promised a better second half must have known those hands that are better for the project before forwarding their names for screening and ratification. So, with this worrisome development on our hands now, who could dare blame the governor if he fails to deliver on his promise?” the statement asked, urging that, “the governor who has hit the ground running is not dragged backward and thereby causing the populace a great pain and displeasure!”
The group was reacting to the news of the 17 out of the 39 cabinet nominees of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu reportedly dropped by the legislative House of Assembly under the leadership of Rt. Honourable Mudashiru Obasa during the screening. Among those dropped were the last information and strategy Commissioner, Mr Gbenga omotoso, his Health Counterpart, Professor Akin Abayomi, adviser to Governor on Works and Infrastructure, Aramide Adeyooye, Folashade Adefisayo and 13 others.
