CEO Winhomes, Ifeoma Okengwu Loses Suit Against FG On Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway Project

The Federal High Court sitting at Ikoyi, Lagos State, today, struck out with costs a lawsuit filed before it by Winhomes Estate Global Services Limited and Anor against the Honourable Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice and four (4) Co-defendants. The landmark ruling was delivered by Honourable Justice Akintayo Aluko, today, Friday, 21 November 2025.

A statement issued by Mohammed A. Ahmed, Director, Information and Public Relations, noted that the decision to quash the case, according to the Honourable Justice, was based on the following legal grounds:

  1. The court lacks subject matter jurisdiction in the suit under Section 251 of the Constitution because the Plaintiffs’ claims border on land use and trespass outside the court’s jurisdiction.
  2. The Plaintiffs lack locus standi to initiate the action because the Plaintiffs admitted in the processes they filed that their interest in the land had been divested/sold to third parties. The Judge further held that the Plaintiffs did not disclose a reasonable cause of action against the Defendants.

It may be recalled that Winhomes Estate Global Services Limited obtained a parcel of land from a community along the Lagos shores for development but only built a gatehouse on it, demarcated the land into individual plots, and sold them. The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway passes through the said parcel of land, which was marked for demolition after valuation. Still, the firm refused to relinquish it, insisting that the highway’s design be altered to spare the undeveloped plots.

The Federal Ministry of Works refused the suggestion and after a series of Stakeholders Engagement on the alignment and right of way (RoW), and refusal to collect the monetary compensation offered, went ahead to demolish the gatehouse, hence the decision to proceed to the Court by Winhomes Estate Global Services Limited.

The Judgement has put to rest campaigns of calumny against the persons of the Honourable Minister of Works and some officials of the Ministry, orchestrated by Winhomes Estate Global Services Limited both at home and abroad.
