Corn seller, Chizoba at GTCO food and Drink expresses her delight to participate in sales of things at the festival in an interview at the 8th edition of the GTCO Food and Drink Festival, held at GTCentre, Plot 1 Water Corporation Drive, Oniru, Victoria Island, Lagos, write Editor Gentechnews, Tony Nwakaegho.
Madam, kindly introduce yourself and what you are doing at the GTCO Food and Drink Festival?
My name is Madam Chizoba Rosemary. I am from Imo State, but live near Oniru Beach in Victoria Island. I am here at the GTCO Food and Drink Festival to sell corn and other items with my workers.
Where do you get your corn from and how is the price?
I normally buy my corn from Ketu market. The corn is sold in bags and are very expensive as a bag of corn sells between N32,000 and N33,000.
You also use Charcoal to roast the corn, so how do you sell and make profit from this corn business?
I use about N3,000 charcoal to roast the corn and I sell one corn at N500 and N1000 and depending on how the market is I can make a profit of N5,000.
What inspired you to come to GTCO food and drink to sell corn?
I came to sell at the GTCO food and drink because of the opportunity that GTCO gave to people like us to come here to sell for free.
What are your challenges in this corn business?
The challenges in the business of selling corn is that it is very costly.
Have you approached any bank or even GTCO for a loan for your business?
I have not approached any bank for a loan. I am using my own money for the business.
Where will you be doing your business as the festival ends today?
I will continue my corn business after the festival at Ligali here in Victoria Island.
Which one is better in terms of sale at GTCO food and Drink and the Ligali area?
The GTCO food and drink sale is better for me because there are more people coming to buy corn here.
What message do you have for the organisers of GTCO food and Drink?
I want to thank GTCO for the opportunity, that they did well for me and others to come and sell here for free. This is my third year of coming to the GTCO food and drink to sell. However, this year’s festival is better when compared to the other two I attended.
