DELSU VC highlights achievements, Institution’s elevation to international standard
The Vice Chancellor of Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, Prof. Samuel Ogheneovo Asagba, on Monday highlighted a comprehensive list of achievements that have elevated the institution in academics, infrastructure, technology, research, staff welfare, and international collaboration.
The VC highlighted that his initiatives include expanding academic programmes, upgrading ICT systems, constructing and renovating facilities, strengthening research output and global partnerships, improving staff conditions, and implementing financial reforms—all aimed at repositioning DELSU on a national and international scale.
Prof. Asagba, while briefing journalists at the University campus in Abraka as part of the activities to mark one-year anniversary, said he has raised the institutions standard and enhanced service delivery of staff and students.
He announced that one of his achievements was the unprecedented overhaul of DELSU’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) system, which has transformed the university into a digitally driven institution.
According to him, his administration introduced automation of results processing thereby reducing errors and processing time, adding “Introduction of online screening for new students, eliminating long queues and travel difficulties. Launch of online payments for certificates, transcripts, and registry services.
“Expansion of CBT centres for faster, more efficient examinations. Recruitment of 12 new programmers to power digital growth. Deployment of high-speed fibre-optic internet across campus. revamped Data Centre and upgraded server capacity for reliability.”
He hinted that graduates can now receive their certificates from anywhere in the world through the university’s digital delivery system.
Th VC said that he has revived DELSU’s major faculties and programmes including, establishment of the faculty of Environmental Sciences Architecture, Surveying & Geoinformatics, Estate Management, Quantity Surveying, Environmental Management.
Others, he said, are the creation of the Faculty of Computing Data Science, Software Engineering, Forensic & Security Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Launch of the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Public Health, Radiography, Pharmacology, and other health-based programmes.”
He disclosed that he has constructed a 1-kilometre access road linking key faculties and development of the Faculty of Agriculture complex, with work already at an advanced stage.
“Ongoing completion of a 500-capacity lecture theatre for the Faculty of Arts. Large-scale renovation of departments, classrooms, and laboratories.
“Purchase of over 200 computers, laptops, desktops and air conditioners for academic and administrative use. Resuscitation of more than 60 unused laboratory equipment, saving millions of naira,” he added.
