Delta At 33: Gov Oborovweri urged to Construct Road Network at Aliboba Community, Ika South LGA, Agbor  

As Deltans continue to roll out drums to celebrate the state at 33, many encomiums are being poured on the state government under the leadership of Delta State Governor State, Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborovweri on infrastructure developments, but it is not yet Uhuru because Gentechnews for the benefit of hindsight has inundated the past administrations and the current one under his leadership that there is a place call Aliboba Community along Uromi Junction to Agbor Technical College in Ika South Local Government Area, Agbor that has never seen road network since the 33 years of Delta State. The residents are passing through an excruciating experience of erosion ravaging the areas, impassable muddy ground while they navigate through bush part ways to access their houses. It appears that the State Government doesn’t know that this area exists in the state and deserves the dividend of democracy, writes Tony Nwakaegho, Editor Gentechnews.

Aliboba Community, Ika South Local Government Area, Agbor, Delta State, which is situated along Uromi Junction to Agbor Technical School to Agbor Obi has been neglected and abandoned without a road  network for the past 33 years even as the state government is celebrating its anniversary.

This is an area where local and state governments generate revenue from stores, petrol stations, parks, local palm oil processing spots, Delta Line office, Hotels amongst other economic ventures.

The gross neglect of this area is a clear pointer to the fact that both the local government and the state government are only interested in the revenue which it generates from this area, yet residents only make do with bush paths to their houses, while some houses are caving into the gullies caused by erosion.

The denial of the dividend of democracy since the creation of Delta State has led to the hue and cry by the residents of Aliboba quarters, Agbor in Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State calling on the State Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori to visit this area for on-the-spot assessment and to direct that road networks be constructed in these areas after over three decades of abandonment by previous administrations.

Peter Ulebo, a resident, said “our areas have no road networks, except footpaths, pathways washed by erosion as well as deep gullies. The community leaders have had several chats with the both print and electronic media on this development and complained to the past administrations with the publication on both the state government official website, Instagram and Twitter handles to draw the attention of government to the plight of this community to no avail.

According to him, “The agony, pains and panic of the people is that lives have being lost, residential buildings about caving into deep gully in Ebomkpa quarters there, even as the Agbor Technical College and the Aliboba primary school are at the verge of the gully which can swallow any big lorry. About three years ago two siblings were swept away by flood in a mighty gully that is close to the Technical College fence.”

Other residents lamented that the Commissioner for Works (Rural and Internal Roads) Delta State, Charles Aniagwu, an indigene of Ika North should have risen to the occasion and draw the attention of government to this area and let road networks be constructed because he was privy to the plight of the community when he was Commissioner of Information in former Governor Okowa’s administration, haven been inundated with avalanche of media reports about the area to no avail.

The just concluded local government election that saw the emergence of Hon. (Engr) Jerry Ehiwarior as the Chairman of Ika South LGA in Delta State is a wake up call for him to prevail of the State government to bring succour to the Aliboba community by constructing road network to link the area to Agbor-Obi Town where we have the Dein Keagborekuzi I, Dein of Agbor kingdom.

Gentechnews believes that it is time for Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori wrote his name in Gold and for residents of Aliboba Community, Agbor to say “You have done what Napoleon couldn’t do” for Aliboba Community in Ika South LGA of Delta State by constructing road networks after over three decades of the creation of Delta State.

Gentechnews wants this anniversary to be a reminder that the responsibility of building a better state where no community, marginalised, neglected or abandoned lies on the local and state government on road construction and so Aliboba Community in Ika South LGA, Agbor cannot be an exception!
