Delta PDP Govt Neglects Aliboba Community, Agbor for 22 Years without Roads Network

As the 2023 electioneering year is around the corner, the residents of Aliboba Community in Ika South Local Government Area, Agbor in Delta State have expressed their lamentation as to how the successive People’s Democratic Party, (PDP) government and the current one under the leadership of the Governor, Senator, Dr Arthur Okowa have neglected the Community for 22 years of being in power without a single road network.

Investigations by Gentechnews revealed that this quarter which is by Uromi junction in Ika South Local Government Area, Agbor in Delta State is where the Delta line office is domiciled and also share boundary with Agbor Technical School, Agbor.

It also showed that there are about four streets and adjoining ones in this quarter which could have served as a short way to Agbor-Obi town if all the past and present administration has given it a human face by constructing these roads just like what is being done in the Ika North Local Government Area in Delta State.

Speaking to Gentechnews over the state of neglects of roads in this Community, a resident in this quarter, Uwaifor Augustine narrated that he has been living in the area for more than twenty years and the only attempt that was made to construct that road failed because nobody could hold the contractor and those in authority accountable since 1999.

He said “As I am talking to you no motorcycle or vehicle can enter any street in that environment. Those that have vehicles look for places in the town to park their vehicles and trek home every day. The whole area is eroded by gully and the worst gully is that one by Agbor Technical School fence. Its depth can swallow any big 911 Lorry.

“I recall that some years ago when it rained two children were swept away by the flood in that gully by Agbor Technical School, Agbor and they died. We have written and cried for the Ika South Local Government Area and Delta State Government to come to our aids and give these areas befitting road network as it is being done in Ika North East L.G.A to no avail.

“I want to use this medium to draw the attention of the State government that no politician should come to campaign for vote if as a matter of urgency the Delta State Works Commissioner did not visit these areas on a fact finding mission to access the level of neglect and devastation by erosion to commence the construction of roads in the community before the election.

Uwaifor pointed out that “Initially, we were happy that our brother, Senator Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa being the Governor of Delta State would intervene by constructing the roads in these areas because when another administration steps in, we may not get such opportunity again. But it appears that all hope is lost with just about 14 months to the end of this administration.”

Another resident, Sunday Ogboi narrated how the community used to tax themselves to fill the foot path roads with sand bags due the volume of water that passes there when it rains.

Ogboi called on the local and State government to come to their aid by constructing the roads in the areas because that is part of the dividend of democracy which they are craving for many years.

“The State government should intervene and construct roads for us. We have suffered enough all these years and I feel it is time to end it by this current administration,” he added.

According to him, some of the owners of the buildings near the Technical School Agbor have abandoned their houses due to the very deep and frightening gully site that is almost caving in their buildings.

He accused the PDP politicians of coming to the community soliciting for votes each election year with promises of constructing the road network in the community only for them to renege in their promises when they come to power.

Ogboi lamented that Aliboba Community in Ika South LGA is a sorry sight to behold when compared with the Ika North East LGA where the State governor come from in terms of development.

“ Go and see the popular Baleke street, Maraire Street and Queens Streets. These ones are in the heart of Ika South LGA. Some were constructed half way and abandoned. What is the sin of Ika South LGA that has made the area to be suffering these unquantifiable neglect in road networks?”, he asked.

The residents therefore appealed to the State Governor, Senator Dr. Arthur Okowa to as a matter of urgency because election is approaching to extend his developmental stride that makes people to call him the road master to Aliboba in Ika South LGA, in order to remove this yoke of abandonment of this area by the PDP administrations since inception in Delta State.
