Delta threatens clampdown on collection of illegal levies

• To enforce Delta State Public and Private Properties Protection Law

Respite has finally come on the way of Deltans who have been exploited by miscreants who collect forceful levies on properties as the Delta State Government has now threatened to prosecute miscreants who collect illegal and forceful levies known as ‘deve’ from public and private developers in the state.

The Commissioner for Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu, who disclosed this on Monday in Asaba, urged the people to stop the practice or face the wrath of the law.

Aniagwu,  said the governor had signed a law criminalising illegal and forceful collection of levies, adding that such illegal levies had scared investors away from the state.

The commissioner said, “We will not hesitate to take advantage of the Delta State Public and Private Properties Protection Law to prosecute illegal and forceful entry into development sites.”

Aniagwu said that the government was partnering traditional rulers with a view to phase out such activities and make Delta an investment hub.
