Embrace entrepreneurship opportunities in mitigating the effect of climate change – Amuwo Odofin LG boss charges youths
The executive Chairman of Amuwo Odofin local government, Engr. Oluwaseyi Buraimoh has tasked youths on the need to embrace the opportunities inherent in the fight at mitigating the effect of climate change in the country.
Engr. Buraimoh made the call at the maiden edition of the Climate Change entrepreneurship summit organised by AISC in collaboration with TRYinitiative, held at the Amuwo Odofin local secretariat in Lagos.
He rolled out the various opportunities made by the government to assist the youths.
According to the Chairman, the climate advocacy will be taken to schools and religious bodies, adding that all hands must be on deck as the fight at mitigating the effect of climate change across the globe continues and, in the process, we tap into the opportunities it provides.
“There are grants by the State and Federal government through the SDGs, where youths can partner in this regard to make sure that the government’s expectations are met,” he said.
The guest speaker at the event, a Lecturer from the department of Philosophy, University of Lagos, Dr. Ayodele Shotunde noted that everyone is a stakeholder in the fight at mitigating the effect of climate change. Government cannot do it alone; it has to be a collaborative effort”.
Speaking in her opening remark at the summit themed: Entrepreneurship and Climate Change: Unending opportunities for the Nigerian youth, the Founder TRYinitiatve, Ms. Theresa Igata said that the theme of the summit was apt, at a time the world is looking to see more people invest, take up businesses in the green economy space as various grants and funds have be made available both locally and internationally in that regard.
She noted that Climate change has become our reality, hence the need to focus more on exploiting the unending opportunities it provides as we look to mitigating its effect on our world.
The Founder AISC, Amb. Kingsley Nwanze, disclosed that the aspect of mitigating the effect of climate change has given birth to entrepreneurship opportunities that youths can tap into; be it in agriculture, renewable energy and so much more.
The high point of the event was the presentation of special awards of recognition to Hon. Michael Ojomo, Majority Leader, Amuwo Odofin Legislative Council; Kingsley Akamere, MD/CEO King Pure Energy Limited and Pastor Sam Oodo, MD/CEO, Oodo Divine Connection Limited and the induction of the Local Government Chairman as an ambassador for climate change advocacy in Nigeria, while two youths were given internship opportunities at the Lagos State Waste Management Authority’s Academy (LAWMA ACADEMY) internship programme.
