A Development economist who is the Principal Partner of Asset Cowries Limited Johnson Chukwu has asked the state and local government to stop blocking the highway in the name of tax collection.
Chukwu said he is sad when he sees roads being block across the country in the name of tax collection.
“I am sad when I still see at this point in time that many states and local government still block the roads in the name of tax collections when they could deploy technology for the purpose”, he said.
He called on the government to create an enabling environment for Nigerians and business to seek for Justice when overzealous tax collectors harass them on the road.
“We need a quick justice delivery in tax issues in this country. Many people have been killed, beaten up or get their trucks or vehicles damaged by overzealous tax collectors along the road. This practice must stop,” he pleaded.
Chukwu charged state and local government to embrace technology, drone and other modern gadgets to collect their legal taxes, adding that the Judiciary should be prompt in delivery tax related cases.
