Federal Ministry of Works, Lagos clarifies ‘Third Mainland Bridge is not shaking or in danger of collapse’

The Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Works has clarified that contrary to some social media reports, the Third Mainland Bridge is not shaking or in danger of collapse, saying “These rumours are baseless and appear to be driven by ulterior motives’’

A statement signed by Engr. (Mrs.) O . I. Kesha, Federal Controller of Works, Lagos, noted however,that the Ministry acknowledges the existence of deflection in specific sections of the Third Mainland Bridge, particularly between the Adekunle and Adeniji junctions.

“It is pertinent to state that work is currently going on at under the bridge with particular attention to the bridge piers, pile caps, under deck slabs etc.

“In view of the above, the Ministry through the Honourable Minister is assuring the Motoring Public that the bridge is safe & in stable condition & is fit to ride upon .

“Meanwhile, the Ministry will continue to pay attention to the bridge and ensure continued maintenance and monitoring to ensure the long-term safety of the bridge,” the statement emphasized.
