FG to Leverage on Potential of ICT to Create Jobs in 2022
President Muhammadu Buhari has said his administration will leverage on the potentials of ICT platforms to create more jobs for Nigerians in 2022.
Buhari made this remark in his New Year address to Nigerians on Friday in celebration of the New Year.
The president said “In the year 2022 and going forward, our Administration would intentionally leverage ICT platforms to create jobs, while ensuring that the diversification of our economy creates more support to other emerging sectors.”
Buhari said he is proud to announce that several foreign investors are taking advantage of Nigeria’s ranking as one of the leading start-up ecosystems in Africa to invest in its digital economy.
Buhari’s job creation announcement may be good news for an economy in dire need of jobs as Nigeria’s unemployment rate rose to 33.3 per cent (23.2 million people) early this year from 27.1 per cent, the highest in at least 13 years and the second-highest rate in the world.
Thus, the country’s unemployment rate has more than quadrupled since 2016 when the economy slipped into a recession.
