Ganduje Resigns, Hands over to Dalori as Acting APC Chairman
The Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Abdullahi Umar Ganduje on Friday sent shocking waves to members of the party and the entire nation as he resigned from his position, effective immediately.
Ganduje who was governor of Kano State between 2015 and 2023 cited health reasons for his decision, stating that he needs to focus on his well-being. However, he was recently seen with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in many of his engagements hale and hearty. This has raised suspicions that all may not be well within the party.
Many also believe that Ganduje’s resignation may not be unconnected with Tinubu’s romance with his arch political foe, Alhaji Rabiu Musa Kwakwanso, who is a former governor of Kano State. Tinubu has done everything possible to woo Kwakwanso into the APC fold which may not sit well with Ganduje, hence the resignation.
Ganduje’s tenure as APC chairman has been marked by controversy and challenges. He was elected as the APC National Chairman in August 2023, amidst internal party conflicts. Allegations of financial impropriety have also been linked to his resignation, with some party members reportedly protesting “excessive financial demands” imposed by his office.
Meanwhile, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Friday evening appointed Alhaji Ali Bukar Dalori as the new Acting National Chairman in accordance with the constitution of the party.
His emergence follows the resignation of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who resigned from the position of chairman earlier on the same Friday, June 27, 2025.
Dalori previously served as the APC’s Deputy National Chairman (North). He is expected to steer the affairs of the ruling party in an acting capacity until a substantive national chairman is elected.
The announcement was made shortly after a closed-door meeting of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) in Abuja, where members unanimously endorsed Dalori to take over the leadership role.
