Ghana Police arrest nine fleeing inmates from Nigeria
Ghanaian Police Force has announced that it arrested some fleeing inmates from Nigeria.
Ada Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent, Francis Somian, while confirming the arrest of the alleged prison escapees on Tuesday, told newsmen that officers of the force apprehended nine inmates who may have broken jail from Nigeria.
Somian confirmed that they were nabbed after the police got tipped off that led them to Clinic Junction Lorry Station where the arrest was made on Monday, April 19.
The Ghanaian police believed the suspects to be fugitive jail breakers from Nigeria who entered the country through ferry, across River Volta into Ada Foah where they intended to continue their journey to Accra through commercial bus.
Ghanaian police revealed the names of the suspects who were found with Ghanaian and Nigerian currency, personal belongings, passports, and ID cards as Emmanuel Obinnah Chiedozie – 27, Steve Eyenuku – 33, Enebeli Lucky – 29, Yommi Usmah – 29, Keli Ekureni -33, Freedom Yusuf – 25, Obi Onuora – 38, Patrick Chanar – 47, and Bless Eyenuku -25.
Recall that about 3,000 inmates reportedly escaped from the Nigerian Correctional Service in Owerri, Imo State capital a few days ago.
The spokesman of Nigeria Correctional Service (NCS), Francis Enobore, had confirmed earlier that a number of the inmates have returned back to the facility.
