Groups train 100 teachers, others in environmental sustainability
The Oando Foundation, Nigeria, Sumitomo Chemical, China, with the technical support of the Nigerian Conservation Foundation, (NCF) has empowered 100 teachers on relevance of recycling and environmental sustainability.
The groups organised a three-day capacity building on recycling and environmental sustainability for some public primary school teachers in Lagos State with its theme as ‘Upcycling and composting in schools and communities’.
The workshop had 100 participants drawn from Dele Ajomale Primary School, Ilasamaja; Metropolitan Primary School, Orile-Iganmu and Dada Olisa Primary School, Papa Ajao, Mushin in Lagos as well as parents and community members.
The organisers said that they considered business of wastes recycling to be a viable means of revenue generation for schools, communities and families.
They used the workshop to expose participants to diverse areas of waste recycling including the use of plastic bottles to manufacture furniture materials like mattresses, duvet, chairs and tables.
High point of the workshop included the production of organic fertilisers using plant and animal wastes products such as leaves, saw dust, chicken and rabbit materials.
