Lagos House Of Assembly: Obasa Impeached As Hon. Moji Ojora Sworn In As Speaker

Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has been reportedly impeached.

Gentechnews gathered that the former Deputy Speaker of the House, Hon Moji Ojora was sworn in as the new speaker of the Lagos House of Assembly.

Ojora, who represents Apapa Constituency 1, was also a former chief whip of the House.

In a video on TVC News, where members of the Nigerian Police Force were seen on ground at the House of Assembly, Alausa Lagos, Obasa was impeached for gross misconduct and abuse of office.

Gentechnews learnt that the removal follows reports of how Obasa oversaw the withdrawal of N43.5 billion for back up vehicles for lawmakers, as well as other controversial activities.

Obasa, 52, was first elected Speaker on June 8, 2015, resuming office alongside former one-term governor Akinwunmi Ambode.

It was also gathered that allegations of fraud and political thuggery have reportedly  marked his speakership, coupled with unconfirmed reports that Obasa allegedly diverted Lagos funds to his personal firms and bank accounts.

Although, he was invited to be questioned by the EFCC at the anti-graft office, he denied all allegations, and no charges were filed after he met with detectives up until now.

Unconfirmed report has attributed the speaker’s removal to power play as the speaker was nursing the ambition to contest for the Lagos State number one seat, while the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, has amplified the narrative about Seyi Tinubu, President Bola Tinubu’s son to become the next Governor of Lagos State.
