Lagos motor show exhibits transition of past heritage vehicles to modern, electric vehicles, others
Lagos Motor Show 2024 has created a roadmap in the mind of local and global Car enthusiasts as it showcased an exhibition Modern, Classic, Vintage Cars, Eco Friendly EV, Robotics and autonomous vehicles, Electric –Tricycles and E-mobility from Friday 16th to Saturday 17th February 2024.
The event highlighted Motor companies, Motor Boat Companies, Car Collectors, Transport Logistics companies and brought an exciting opportunity together thousands of automotive enthusiasts, and their families, purchasers, decision makers, dealers, industry professionals, and media representatives, banks, insurance companies, small-scale auto-entrepreneurs, representatives of foreign trade missions and multinational companies.
Speaking at the ceremony, Engr. Gbenga Adebayo, Chairman and Chief Promoter of the Lagos Motor Show, stated that the event was an exhibition of new innovation and developments in the auto Industry, from cars before Nigeria’s independence and after the independence.
Adebayo narrated his passion for motoring as well as writing which snowballed into the Lagos Motors Show that has also exhibited Internet of Things (IoT) in automobiles, energy efficient cars, Electric Vehicles and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) powered low emission vehicles.
He stated that Nigeria can now boast of turning landover scarps into a complete motor as was exhibited at the event.
Adebayo hinted that show will be an annual event that part of the proceeds from this event and activities will be donated to charitable causes.
He thanked the Royal Father, His Royal Highness, HRH Barrister Mohammed Sanni Haliru Dantoro CFR. Kitoro IV. (Mai Borgu), The Emir of Borgu Kingdom for honouring the event with his presence, as well as promoters and sponsors.
In his goodwill message, Chief Olu Okeowo, Founder and Chairman of Gibraltar Constructions Company limited, a Car enthusiasts declared that vehicles which are the heritage of the past should be preserved for the future and in so doing the nation’s economy will also be preserved.
His Royal Highness, HRH Barrister Mohammed Sanni Haliru Dantoro CFR. Kitoro IV. (Mai Borgu), The Emir of Borgu Kingdom, who is the patron of the Lagos Motors Show took a tour to inspect the vehicles on display and opened the door of 1960 car in history.
In his address, His Royal Highness, HRH Barrister Mohammed Sanni Haliru Dantoro CFR. Kitoro IV. (Mai Borgu), The Emir of Borgu Kingdom, stated that the event is a unique one and feels honoured to witness the occasion.
The Royal Father pointed out the unique thing that his late father saw in the life of Engr. Gbenga Adebayo, Chairman and Chief Promoter of the Lagos Motor Show has continued to manifest.
He encouraged Nigerians, who he said are going through hard adding that nothing happens without the knowledge of God.
He pointed out that the electric cars that we saw in other countries, we are now seeing coming into our country is a blessing.
According to the monarch, most of the cars that are seen here at the Lagos Motors Show are part of history because most people have not seen such cars before now.
“A society without history is no society,” he added.
His Royal Highness, stated further advised Nigerians to pray for the leaders for God to direct them and appealed to the leadership conscience to see what Nigerians are going through so that Nigerians will feel happy again.
He called on the government not to see the traditional institution as a tool during campaign, adding “In terms of economy the traditional institution is key and ought to be supportive of the government and representative of the people.”
He urged the government to accord the youths some responsibilities and for political appointees to have the fear of God.
The monarch charged Nigerians to expose those who do not mean well for the country due to the security challenges.
The high point during the tour at the Lagos Motors Show was when the Chairman/CEO Saglev, Mr Sam Olugbenga Faleye informed the monarch and all presence about the uniqueness of the electric vehicles that can go five to six hours after recharging for eight hours, adding that the cars are also coming with artificial intelligence(AI).
Faleye explained that electric vehicles are so efficient that they don’t need massive engines, adding that they have about eight model they are going to assemble at Ikorodu through the staff that are undergoing training.
The Chairman/CEO Saglev, stated further that their planning for four years is adding up, stressing that the future of electric vehicles in Africa cannot be complete without passing through Nigeria.
