Lagos State Safety Commission, MAN signs MoU on Safety Standards

Lagos State Safety Commission has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN).

Speaking at the ceremony held in Alausa, Ikeja, the Director-General of Lagos State Safety Commission, Mr. Lanre Mojola, said that the signing of the MoU is a welcome development long overdue, which is part of the current administration’s commitment to achieving a safer and orderly Lagos.

Mojola stated that the Commission had engaged various key stakeholders to develop a strategic partnership that would achieve zero accidents in the workplace or home environment in the course of pursuing socio-economic activities in the State.

He expressed his delight to witness the day which he said is as a result of the long constructive engagement between the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria and Safety Commission and enjoined the leadership of MAN to carry along their member organisations on the required minimum safety in workplaces.

In his words: “We hope this is the beginning of another journey to ensure zero accident across the State. Safety reports of member companies would only be recognised if submissions are made by registered consultants.”

In his response, the Chairman, Health, Safety and Environmental Committee, MAN, Ikeja Branch, Mr. Shola Ologun, lauded the final signing of the MoU through the dedication and firm commitment of the Lagos State Safety Commission.

Ologun disclosed that the association would continue to negotiate and ensure that the concerns of manufacturers are addressed and members adequately represented at further negotiations with the agency.

He harped on the need for periodic meetings between MAN and Lagos Safety Commission.

The high point of the event is the presentation of a handbook on public safety for all households, titled: “Essentials of Safety and Health”, which was presented by the Director-General, Lagos State Safety Commission, Mr. Lanre Mojola.
