LASG vows continuous clampdown on building offenders

The Lagos State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development has said it will continue its enforcement activities to clamp down on violators of its physical planning laws.

This is coming on the heels of its recent sealing of 43 structures on Airport Road, including 13 banks and 13 hotels for violating the physical planning law of the state.

The Assistant Director, Public Affairs, Mukaila Sanusi, disclosed this in a statement, entitled, “Banks, hotels, others on Airport Road come under LASG seal for physical planning infractions.”

The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr Idris Salako, while supervising the sealing of the erring structures, clarified that most of the buildings which were in use were either built without planning permit or built without conforming to their approval order.

Salako pointed out that the area, being an international gateway to Lagos State, must not be allowed to be defaced with illegal developments, stressing that all physical developments on Airport Road and other areas of the state must conform to the planning laws of the state.

According to the commissioner “It is by enforcing strict compliance to laws and regulations that we can halt the pervasive incidence of illegal and unapproved buildings, protect  the operative development plans of Lagos State and sustain an orderly, organised and livable environment.”

Salako hinted that the on-going enforcement activities would remain on course despite attempts by some developers, property owners and users to discredit the exercise through the media.
