LAWMA urges Lagos community to comply with environmental laws
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Lagos Waste Management Authority, Mr Ibrahim Odumboni, has urged residents and shop owners of Ajiran Community in the Eti-Osa Local Government area to take responsibility for their wastes in order to achieve a clean and sustainable environment.
According to a statement issued by Lagos State, Odumboni gave the charge at a meeting with the Monarch of Ajiran Community, HRM Oba Tijani Akinloye, representatives of CDAs/CDCs and other stakeholders in the community.
Odumboni, also advised that participants should patronise assigned PSP operators and pay their waste bills promptly, adding that there was nowhere in the world that waste services are free.
He also cautioned that further environmental infractions by community residents would attract the full weight of the law.
On his part, the Chief Technical Officer, LAWMA, Dr Olohunwa Tijani, disclosed that some shops had already been sealed in the neighbourhood for reckless waste disposal and other environmental infractions as a deterrent to would-be defaulters.
