MAN To Convene Energy Security Summit To Address Power Crisis In Nigeria

As Nigeria continues to experience an energy crisis that is impacting all facets of the economy, including productivity and competitiveness in the manufacturing sector, the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) has risen to the occasion to convene a national energy summit to proffer solutions.

President of MAN, Francis Meshioye, who made the disclosure, noted that Manufacturers’ Energy Security Summit themed, “Energy Adequacy for Industrial Growth,” is scheduled to hold in Lagos from November 19 to 21, 2024, to address the challenges in energy sector in Nigeria that is impeding the growth of the nation’s industrial sector in its quest to attract investments and create jobs.

President of MAN, cited the major challenges in the country’s energy sector to include, inadequate power supply, unreliable energy infrastructure, and high electricity tariffs.

Meshioye disclosed that the summit will assemble industry experts, policymakers, and stakeholders to deliberate on innovative solutions, share best practices, and mull partnerships that will stimulate growth as well enable sustainability in the sector.

He explained that the Association is mindful of the critical role that energy plays in enhancing industrial growth and economic development, adding “adequate and reliable energy supply is a basic requirement for the smooth operation of industries, and it is essential for achieving sustainable growth and competitiveness in the global market.”

He lamented that the energy landscape in Nigeria is facing challenges that include inadequate power supply, unreliable energy infrastructure, and high electricity tariffs, stressing that these challenges not only impede the growth of industries but also undermine the ability to attract investments and create jobs in the country.

Meshioye affirmed that there is a need to address these challenges head-on and work towards achieving energy adequacy for the nation’s industrial growth, among others.
