Middle-Aged Woman Dies in Alibuoba in Agbor, Delta Flood
The Alibuoba Quarters in Agbor, Ika South Local Council of Delta State which has suffered over three decades of neglect, abandonment without road networks by the entire successive People’s Democratic Party administration and the current Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa has been turned into a wailing theater following the death of a middle-aged woman inside a gutter.
The lifeless body of the deceased was found inside the gully measuring over 50 feet deep and 30 feet wide along the Universal Basic Education (UBE) Road, beside Agbor Technical College.
Gentechnews has reported several interactions and investigations on the recurrent erosion challenge in the areas which has also put many buildings under threat of possible collapse to the State Governor, the Delta State Commissioner of Information, Mr Charles Ehiedu, an Ika indigene and the Delta State, Commissioner for Works Urban Roads, Mr Noel Omodon and no action has been taken to ameliorate the suffering of these residents up until now.
Gentechnews also reported how two teenagers of same parents aged between 15 and 17 years, were swept away by the ravaging gully erosion in the area, about three years ago to the river.
Chairman, Landlords/Landladies Association of the Area, Comrade Chukwuyem Odia, said that the erosion hazard has continued to pose great challenge and danger to residents in the area, thereby forcing residents relocate from the area to adjoining towns.
Odia lamented that the efforts by Landlords and residents in the area to check the erosion menace was futile due the gully that has become a threat to lives and property.
He noted that the Association had reached out to some well meaning people, which include the member representing Ika South Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Festus Chukwuyem Okoh, member representing Ika Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Hon. Victor Nwokolo, among others and nothing has been done to both the roads and the gully erosion.
The residents are calling on the member representing Ika South Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Festus Chukwuyem Okoh, member representing Ika Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Hon. Victor Nwokolo to as a matter of urgency contact the State Governor Senator Ifeanyi Okowa to come to the aid of Alibuoba Resident before more lives and property which include buildings that are caving in the gully along the Universal Basic Education (UBE) Road, beside Agbor Technical College are lost to the gully.
