MTN Nigeria Secures NCC’s 10-Year Spectrum License Renewal, Extension of Another to 2034
MTN Nigeria Communications PLC has announced that it has received approval from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) for the renewal and harmonization of its 800MHz spectrum licenses.
According to the telco, NCC has granted a 10-year renewal for MTN Nigeria’s first 800MHz spectrum band license (Channel 1), effective from January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2034.
This renewal ensures the continuity of MTN’s services utilizing this crucial spectrum band for the next decade and to supports its ongoing investment in network infrastructure, ensuring improved coverage, capacity, and innovation.
In addition to the renewal, the NCC has also approved a four-year extension for MTN Nigeria’s second 800MHz spectrum band license (Channel 2). This license, which was set to expire on December 31, 2030, will now also run until December 31, 2034.
This strategic extension harmonizes the expiration dates of both 800MHz spectrum licenses, streamlining future renewal processes. By aligning the expiration dates, MTN Nigeria simplifies its long-term spectrum management and planning.
MTN Nigeria CEO Kari Toriola has expressed his satisfaction with the NCC’s decision.
“We are pleased with the successful renewal and harmonization of our 800MHz spectrum licenses, which lay a solid foundation for the ongoing delivery of 4G services to our customers,” Toriola said.
He also highlighted the importance of this development in meeting the growing demand for data and supporting the company’s broader connectivity enhancement strategy.
The telco affirmed that this move reinforces MTN Nigeria’s commitment to providing reliable and high-quality services to its approximately 77 million subscribers across the country.
