NCAA sets up committee to boost accessibility for persons with disabilities

In a bid to ameliorate the pains and difficulties suffered by people with disabilities in accessing public facilities, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has taken a significant step toward improving air travel accessibility by inaugurating the NCAA Disability Inclusion Oversight Committee.

A committee with a mandate to ensure the authority’s compliance with national disability laws and international aviation standards was launched by the Director General, NCAA Capt. Chris Najomo, at the authority’s headquarters in Abuja.

This initiative follows a recent visit by the House of Representatives Committee on Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), highlighting a proactive response from the NCAA to address concerns and implement more inclusive practices.

The committee is composed of a diverse group of individuals, with Michael Achimugu, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, serving as chairman.

Other members include Horatius Egua (Director, Special Duties), Ifueko Abdulmalik (Special Assistant to the DGCA & Head, Flight Operations & Adjudication), Olumide Salu, Harry Dagana, Fatti Tijjani Kumalia, Engr. Shamsuddeen Dalhatu, and Nafeesa Abubakar Shamaki.

The committee has the mandate to enforce compliance with both Nigeria’s disability laws and the standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), aimed to create a more equitable and accessible aviation environment for all travellers.
