NCC Inaugurates Centre of Excellence for Technical, Vocational Trainings

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has inaugurated its Centre of Excellence in Abuja in its sustained efforts towards driving the nation’s digital economy on technical and vocational skills of Nigerians.

Speaking during the launching of the Centre, the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, harped on the critical role of collaboration in transforming innovation facility into a big technological asset for sustainable growth of the economies in the Africa continent.

The minister said: “My expectation is that NCC will collaborate with more stakeholders to make this initiative a true Centre of Excellence for Africa. There is no society in the world that can prosper without connectivity. The connectivity requires humans for its proper functioning.”

In his remarks, the Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, Dr. Aminu Maida, highlighted on the role of the facility dedicated to Nigerian radio engineers, as well as its potential benefits in advancing the skills and capabilities of professionals in the ICT ecosystem.

Dr. Maida noted that the launch of the Centre is the first time in Nigeria that radio engineers in the country will have the opportunity to practically feel what a radio looks like.

He emphasized on the Centre’s initiatives in the 5G era and the acquired skills, unprecedented innovations that will come through it, adding “we would actually see a lot of innovations through this Centre.”

The centre of Excellence, he noted is designed to provide hands on experience and advanced training as well as the essential skills needed to thrive in the digital economy.

He also disclosed that the focus of the Centre will be upskilling participants in 5G and other advanced radio technologies, while preparing them for a successful career in the telecommunications industry.

EVC expressed his thanks to the minister for the vision and drive that brought to centre to life and to Nokia on the opportunities that the collaboration will bring to Nigerians.
