NCC, Swedfund sign landmark deal to reinforce 5G network security

As part of measures to heighten the security and reliability of the West African country’s 5G networks in the telecoms ecosystem, the Nigerian Communications Commission, (NCC) signs a grant agreement with Swedfund, Swedish Development Finance Institution in Abuja.

NCC disclosed that this the Fifth-Generation mobile technology brings faster speeds, low delays, and supports millions of telecoms consumers’ connected device, promises to revolutionize industries like healthcare, transportation, and education with ultra-fast connectivity and massive device integration, and also introduces new security risks due to its complex infrastructure and multiple network vendors in the telecoms ecosystem.

As regards the overarching objective of the collaborative effort with Swedfund, the telecoms sector regulatory Commission stated: “Through this partnership, the NCC aims to develop a risk-based framework to ensure that 5G and future network systems are designed, deployed, and operated securely.

Nigeria aims to foster greater public trust in its digital transformation and the partnership is a critical step toward securing national interests and building a more secure, inclusive, and resilient digital economy for all.

According to the Commission, “security and trust remain central to Nigeria’s digital future.”
