Nigerians Suffer Blackout As National Grid Collapses Third Time in 25 Days

The national electricity grid experienced a system collapse on Friday, which is the third incident in less than one month as homes and businesses remain without power to run their activities.

The grid collapsed on March 14 at 10:40am leading to power outages across the country and just about 48 hours later, the grid collapsed again on March 15, resulting in blackout in several communities across states.

Abdulazeez Abdullahi, head of corporate communication, Kaduna Electric, said in a statement that the grid collapsed at 6:29pm.

The statement reads “Dear Esteemed Customers, the management of Kaduna Electric regrets to inform you that the current outage being experienced in our franchise states is due to a collapse of the national grid.

“The collapse occurred at about 18:29 pm this evening. Normal power supply shall be restored as soon as the grid is restored.

“We sincerely apologise for all inconveniences.”

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) also corroborated the development in a message to its customers on Friday night.

The statement read: “Please be informed that there has just been a national grid collapse causing an outage in our franchise areas.

“We apologise for the inconvenience caused and appeal that you bear with us while we await restoration from the TCN. We regret all inconveniences caused.”

Also, Eko Electricity Distribution Company said the grid collapse affected its entire network.

“Good evening everyone. We regret to inform you that the current outage affecting our entire network is due to system collapse,” EKEDC stated.

“TCN team is working to resolve it as soon as possible.

Sincere apologies for the inconveniences caused. Please, bear with us,” it added.

Nigeria’s power grid collapse has worsened the energy crisis nationwide as Nigerians have to contend with fuel and diesel hikes and power outages.
