Nigeria’s Flamingos book FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup ticket

Nigeria’s U17 girls, the Flamingos, have booked their place at the 2025 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup after playing a goalless draw against Algeria in the second leg of their final qualifying round.

Flamingos, the 2008 bronze medallists, holding a comfortable 4-0 lead from the first leg in Abuja, played a disciplined and composed game in Algeria, absorbing pressure from the hosts while seeking opportunities on the counter-attack.

The Flamingos, despite dominating possession and creating better chances on the night, could not find the back of the net. However, their first-leg performance was enough to see them through with a 4-0 aggregate victory.

The qualification was successfully sealed in Abuja, where Queen Joseph scored twice, with additional goals from Zainab Raji and substitute Aisha Animashaun giving the Flamingos a commanding lead.

Nigeria joins hosts Morocco as one of Africa’s five representatives at the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup, set to take place from October 17 to November 5, 2025. The upcoming tournament marks a historic expansion to 24 participating teams for the first time.

Nigeria has only missed out on qualification once, the 2018 edition held in Uruguay, since the inception of the competition in New Zealand in 2008.
