NPA Training School to Reopen Soon to Boost Capacity Building, Says Bello-Koko

Manpower development in the Nigeria maritime industry is set to receive a boost with the planned reopening of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA)’s training school following the renovation of the facility after years of being abandoned.

Acting Managing Director of the NPA, Mohammed Bello-Koko reassured that when training take up again at the institution, it will alleviate the difficulties hitherto faced by stakeholders in locating training facilities for manpower development and capacity building and also save cost to the authority.

Bello-Koko made this known when he received the outgoing executives of the Nigerian Institute of Shipping (NIS) led by its Vice President, Segun Olufioye Johnson at the NPA’s Corporate Headquarters in Marina, Lagos.

The NPA boss assured industry players of the agency’s readiness to partner with them in order to enhance the manpower and capacity building in the sector even as it is ready to reach out to other various training institutes for the development of appropriate training curriculum.

He stated that the Authority would also engage the retired staff who have vast knowledge to share in their dream in becoming the centre of skills and academic excellence.

Bello-Koko  affirmed that the renovation of the NPA training facility is a testament of his administration’s commitment to ensuring that adequate and recurrent training is undertaken as and when due by relevant workers in the maritime industry.

He stated that the newly renovated NPA resource centre has the capacity to accommodate over 250 participants.

“Management is proud of our workforce which can stand out anywhere in the world in the area of efficient delivery of Port services,” he added.
