Okowa commends party members over peaceful conduct of Delta PDP congress

• As Esiso retains state chairmanship

Delta Governor, Senator (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa, on Saturday commended party faithfuls over peaceful conduct of Delta PDP Congress in Asaba, Delta State.

Okowa maintained that the strength of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) remained in consensus-building and peaceful resolution of issues and called for sustenance of the virtues. He noted that the attributes had always guided the party to successes at elections, especially in Delta and urged members not to be distracted by the antics of the opposition in the state.

He  affirmed that his administration was doing well in infrastructure, education, healthcare and job creation, stressing that Delta had also been rated high across the country and beyond in human development index.

The governor thanked God for a “very peaceful congress in our state, the ward and local government”, stressing that Delta State had shown that “we are organized people; we are proud of the successes recorded so far. “I thank you because as always, you have proved that we truly understand politics, and because we truly understand politics, we will continue to win because God is always on our side.

“Since the formation of this great party, consensus building has always been our strength and I thank God that collectively in our various local government areas we all agreed and elected 39-member State Executive of the state.

“Our strength is in our collective will because you are there at the various units, wards, and local government areas,” Okowa said.

He admonished politicians to exercise caution ahead of 2023, adding “we were elected to work and provide dividends of democracy for the people and there is a lot of time ahead of us.”

The governor applauded the immediate past executive committee of the party in the state for a job well done.

All members of the dissolved State Executive Committee of the party led by Chief Kingsley Esiso as Chairman, were re-elected unopposed at the Congress conducted by a team of PDP officials from the party headquarters in Abuja, led by Dr Lawrence Ezenwa and supervised by officials of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The election saw in attendance 2,803 delegates including the Governor Okowa and his Deputy, Mr Kingsley Otuaro.

Mr. Val Arenyinka was re-elected as Deputy Chairman, Mr Moses Iduh, Vice Chairman, Delta North Senatorial District; Dr Patrick Fovie, Vice Chairman, Delta Central Senatorial District; Chief Julius Takeme, Vice Chairman, Delta South Senatorial District. Chief Godday Obi-Nzete is Secretary; Hon. Deinghan Macaulay, Treasurer; Hon. Collins Bello, Financial Secretary; Dr. Michael Osuoza, Publicity Secretary; Chief Sunday Onoriode, Organizing Secretary; Mr Bernard Odior, Legal Adviser; Lady Kawulia Omoko; Woman Leader; Mr Bino Obowomano, Youth Leader and Chief Owen Erirhomuru, Auditor.

In his acceptance speech, Esiso thanked members of the party for having confidence in their ability to take the party to greater heights. Esiso reassured that the party will continue to support the Stronger Delta vision of the Okowa led administration.

The Delta PDP Chairman urged members with 2023 political ambition to exercise restraint as the Governor was still on duty.

He attributed their successes from an open door policy and running the affairs of the party in such a manner that ensured the unity of the party at all times as well as for the massive support and advice they received from Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa and other leaders of the party.

The tenure of the State Executive was earlier extended by three months because of COVID-19 pandemic.

On his part, Chairman of the election panel, Dr Lawrence Ezenwa congratulated the PDP in Delta for a peaceful congress, adding that the elections were peaceful.
