Passengers’ Airfare rises by 95.01% in one year – NBS

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has said average passenger airfare increased from N38, 253.36 in December 2021 to N74, 597.30 in December 2022.

According to an NBS document tagged “Fare Watch for December 2022”, the airfare rose by 1.81% from in November 2022 of N73, 267.57 to N74,597.30 in December 2022.

“… the average fare paid by air passengers for specified routes single journey, increased by 1.81% on a month-on-month from N73,267.57 in November 2022 to N74,597.30 in December 2022. On a year-on-year, the fare rose by 95.01% from N38, 253.36 in December 2021,”  the NBS said.

It also stated that the average fare paid by commuters for bus journeys within the city per drop increased by 1.19% in December 2022 on a month-on-month from N637.10 in November 2022 to N644.66.

However, the average fare paid by commuters for bus journeys within the city per drop rose by 36.92% year-on-year from N470.83 in December 2021.
