Residents of Alibuba in Ika South groan over two decades of road networks neglect

Indication has emerged that an area known as Alibuba Quarters, Agbor in Ika South LGA have continued to suffer neglects since the inception of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) administration in Delta State as the road networks around its environ could be only be described as ‘busy farm pathway’  devastated by gully erosion.

This quarter is by Uromi junction in Agbor where the Delta line office is domiciled. It also share boundary with Agbor Technical School, Agbor.

Investigations by Gentechnews showed that there are about three streets and adjoining ones in this quarter and from all intent and purpose could have served as a short way to Agbor-Obi town if all the past and present administration have given it a human face by constructing these roads just like what is being done in the Ika North Local Government Area in Delta State.

Speaking over the state of neglects on these roads,  a resident in this quarter, Uwaifor Augustine informed Gentechnews that he has been living in the area for more than twenty years and the only attempt that was made to construct that road failed because nobody could hold the contractor and those in authority accountable.

“Who will bell the cat fairy tale is what I will use to describe the situation here. First, the Obi Ikechukwu Road, that is what the first street was known to be. It was in former governor, James Ibori time that a minor construction work was started on this road with tiny gutters and later abandoned. As I am talking to you no motorcycle or vehicle can enter any street in that environment.

“Those that have vehicles look for places in the town to park their vehicles and trek home every day. The whole area is eroded by gully and the worst gully is that one by Agbor Technical School fence. Its depth can swallow any big car.

“ I recall that some time ago when it rained two children were swept away by the flood in that gully by Agbor Technical School, Agbor and they died. We have written and cried for the Ika South Local Government Area and Delta State Government to come to our aids and give these areas befitting roads as it is being done in Owa  areas to no avail.

“ It appears that the Express Way has given us out as not being part of the local government. I want to use this medium to draw the attention of the State government to as a matter of urgency direct the Delta State Works Commissioner to visit these areas on a fact finding mission to access the level of neglect and devastation by erosion.”

“ We were happy that our brother, Senator Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa is the Governor of Delta State and could have intervene by constructing the roads in these areas because when another administration steps in, we may not get such opportunity again,” Uwaifor said.

Another resident, Sunday Ogboi narrated how the community used to tax themselves to fill the road with sand bags due the volume of water that passes there when it rains.

Ogboi called on the local and State government to come to their aid by constructing the roads in the areas because that is part of the dividend of democracy which they are craving for many years.

“The State government should intervene and construct roads for us. We have suffered enough all these years and I feel it is time to end it by this current administration,” he added.
