The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria FAAN, has received donations of wheel chairs from the Rotary Club of Falomo under district 9110 for use both at the local and international airports in Lagos.
The wheelchairs are to assist the elderly, physically challenged, the weak and sick persons using the airport terminal especially during this season.
Receiving the donations, the Managing Director FAAN, Captain Rabiu Yadudu said such gesture was a welcome development as it would facilitate the seamless movement of these group of passengers it is meant for, adding that this would also enhance FAAN’s service delivery at the airports.
Captain Yadudu, represented by the General Manager, Environment in the agency Mr. Nehemiah Auta stressed that the wheelchairs would be deployed immediately for use at the airport terminals.
While applauding the gesture, the FAAN boss urged the club to sustain the partnership as it had yielded positive results in passenger facilitation.
“This is not the first time you are partnering with us, we really do appreciate this, we appreciate the partnership and we hope we can always build this partnership going forward.”
Earlier, the President, Rotary Club of Falomo District 9110, Rotarian Peter Nwaochei said this was one of the ways the club is giving back to the society, adding that they had carried out a need assessment of the airports and decided to continue with the donation of wheelchairs from last year.
According to him, the former president of the club had earlier embarked on a similar project and since the need was still there, he had to sustain the same project which is on an annual basis.
“It is one of our annual project we normal do, what is the essence? We donate the wheelchair to help the less privileged, the weaken, the old, aged those who are travelling and not privileged, so that’s one of the project we do in Rotary Club Falomo,we single out places like the airports, orthopaedic hospitals, the house of the aged where we make these donations.”
District Governor, Rotary Club 9110 Rotarian. Bola Oyebade urged, staff of the agency to join the club in the service of humanity and to help in sharing in the pains of others and working to alleviate that pain.
“It is our wish that we have more people in Rotary clubs, I understand that you have close to 5,000 people around FAAN and working within the environment, we don’t see any reason why we should not have more than 5 Rotary clubs here”.
Highlight of the visit of the club was the presentation and donation of 15 wheelchairs to the FAAN Management.
