Sen Umahi Urges Nigerians to Reflect on Significance of Ramadan Injunctions, Devotion to God and Humanity
Honourable Minister of Works, His Excellency Sen. Engr. Nweze David Umahi CON has enjoined the muslim faithful and indeed all Nigerians to reflect on the significance of Ramadan, which is a solemn moment of self reflection, moral conditioning and spiritual advancement; a month of abstinence, fasting and prayer and a time to commemorate the revelation of the Qur’an by the Muslim faithful.
Speaking during a ceremony organized to mark the breaking of fast by the Muslim brothers and sisters in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State on 9th March 2025, the Honourable Minister, in the company of the South East Chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria(CAN) Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Abraham Chukwuma Nwali, the leadership of CAN Ebonyi State Chapter and friends, harped on the need as a people to strive to attain God-consciousness, imbibe self discipline, tolerance and sense of gratitude in our affairs with one another.
He expressed joy in the renewed solidarity and fellowship in the echelon of Islam and Christianity in Nigeria, describing the development as a pathway to enduring national unity and love, courtesy of the Renewed Hope administration of the President of Nigeria, His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR.
He said, “God is love. When you show love, then you are serving God. And so, I’m happy for all the Muslim faithful that are gathered here together with our Christian leaders, our Christian brothers, and stakeholders to break fast with them. Mr. President admonished us to show love. Incidentally, this Salah period is also coinciding with the time for the Easter period too. So, we are celebrating with the Muslim brothers and sisters first.”
He urged Nigerians to continue to pray for our leaders at all levels that God may use them mightily in their efforts to make Nigeria assume profound economic greatness.
“In your prayers, please pray for the President, for his success, for all the great work he’s doing, because he came in the name of God. And God has shown himself so mightily and strongly for our dear President. We pray that God will give him good health and that every good thing he thinks for this nation will come to pass. He will achieve it. And of course, as we prepare to complete our first tenure that Mr. President will also be re-elected for the second tenure so that he will complete the good job that he has started,” Umahi said.
He also expressed his best wishes to the Governor of Ebonyi State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Prince Bldr Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru GGCEHF.
He said, “The Governor is doing all his best to develop the State. You will pray for him that God will help him to conclude his four years tenure and give him victory for the second-year tenure, and that God will lift Ebonyi State and make us number one in the whole country for peace, for prosperity, for wealth, for good governance, that God will make us number one. We are happy with what the Governor is doing, and we will continue to support him and you pray for entire Nigeria, that God will continue to make Nigeria a great country, and that Nigeria will be great again.”
In their separate remarks, one of the leaders of the muslims in the State and Sarki Hausa, Alhaji Danjuma Mahmud Gambo thanked the Honourable Minister of Works for his usual generosity and sense of fellowship with the Muslim faithful in Ebonyi State which had become a routine right from the time he was the Governor of Ebonyi State.
“Your Excellency, I pray that God will reward you, as I said earlier, this is the first of its kind, we pray that it will continue, and God will fulfill a desire for you. I promise to pray for you always, whenever you remember this time, and by the grace of God, that will continue,” Gambo said.
The Chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), South East Zone, Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Abraham Chukwuma Nwali, also added his voice on the shared lessons and values of Ramadan. “What the muslims do in the month of Ramadan, is the same thing that the Christians are doing in our Easter period; prayers, fasting, that the soul may be strengthened to defeat the evil one. As we break the fast, as we continue to pray, we ask that the Lord will make Nigeria to continue to live religiously upright, religiously in love, religiously in peace, one heaven, one God, one earth, one Nigeria, and one Nigeria. We wish you well and our beloved Minister, thank you for giving us this honor and privilege. We also ask the Lord to grant to your heart desires and pray for the religious peace, unity, love of our dear nation, and, in particular, our dear State,” Nwali said.
