Senator John Azuta-Mbata Elected 13th Ohanaeze Ndigbo President-General
Senator John Azuta-Mbata has emerged as the 13th President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, a prominent Igbo socio-cultural organization.
His election comes after the past President-General, Nze Fidelis Chukwu’s brief tenure, which lasted only 27 days, from December 15, 2024, to January 10, 2025.
The election process was conducted through voice voting in Enugu on Friday, January 10, as Azuta-Mbata and 15 others were elected to various executive positions within the organization.
Azuta-Mbata hails from Rivers State in South-south Nigeria. The Ohanaeze president is a former senator who represented Rivers East in the Senate from 1999 to 2007.
Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu, on Friday, congratulated Senator John Azuta-Mbata on his election as the president of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide.
The President’s congratulatory message was contained in a statement on Friday signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, Tinubu wished the newly elected Ohanaeze Ndigbo president success as he takes on this onerous yet noble and lofty task.
The statement added, “President Tinubu also congratulates the group on the successful leadership transition and enjoins the new leaders to uphold the principles of their predecessors.
“The President recognises the critical role of socio-cultural organisations in nation-building; hence, his commitment to promoting dialogue among our ethnic nationalities.”
